First and foremost, the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 is staying home. With that said, many travelers have ventured to destinations without harm. Here are some tips for protecting yourself and traveling safely.
Google the destination you are traveling to and check if COVID is rampant in that area. COVID risk is categorized in three levels. Your destination should fall within Level 1 or 2, low to moderate risk. We do not recommend traveling to Level 3 destinations. Also double check if local restaurants, stores, and attractions are open.
Next, order your protective gear and supplies for your flight and hotel experience. We highly recommend face shields, wristband hand sanitizer, masks and alcohol based wipes. On a recent flight with Qatar Airlines, they provided ALL of the above (minus the wristband). Airline companies have been taking extra precaution in maintaining a clean and safe aircraft. Many have updated their air ventilation and sanitation procedures. For full body protection, you can purchase Disposable Isolation Gowns.
After checking your destination’s risk factor and purchasing your gear, it’s time to head to the airport! For me, this is where the wristband hand sanitizer came in most useful. Remembering to clean my hands was effortless since it was always in view when I touched anything. Keep your face shield and mask on at all times. Use your wipes to clean your tray table, overhead AC vents, armrests, recline button, etc.
You’ve arrived at your destination! After you’ve taxied, checked in and entered your room, take off your face shield and mask and clean them thoroughly. We recommend purchasing multiples of each supply to dispose of them after each use.
Use your wipes to clean all surfaces. Tables, door handles, sinks, bath knobs, light switches, etc. this 10 min process can be crucial. Try to limit housekeeping. If not, repeat the wipe down process after each service. Hotels have upped their game in maintaining a clean and safe environment. On a recent trip, I stayed at the Marriott and the whole staff wore masks and gloves and would not enter your room. Linens and Towels were left at the door. In addition, the hotel enforced a 6 feet distancing policy.
So hit an exotic beach in Bali, dine overlooking a Greek sea, or kayak on the waters of Seychelles but safely! Remain 6 feet from others and wear your mask.
At Flux Travel, we believe life doesn’t have to stop completely because of COVID. Like everything in life, we must protect ourselves. Seatbelts for when we’re driving, condoms for when we’re intimate, or now face shield and masks when we’re traveling. COVID has turned our world upside down and we must adapt to our changing world. Something humans are very good at doing.
